How did you get into blogging?
I have always had an ambition of writing and getting my work noticed, since I was a kid I have dreamed of writing a book, and more specifically being my own boss and running a business. Blogging seemed like a good way to start. I had started around 6 blogs, made 4 websites and lasted around two weeks on each of them – this time I’m for keeps and I’m determined to get better.
Where did the name ‘Gifty Gab’ come from?
The name was the most difficult aspect that I faced with my blog – I really struggled with a title, however, I’m always talking and I definitely have the Gift of the Gab, and so, Gifty Gab was born. I’m still not 100% set on it, and so a complete re-brand could well be on the cards.
Who designed your site?
I designed it myself; I created all the graphics and put the
site together. All of the images are mine also unless otherwise stated.
What software do you use for your site and editing your products?
I used Artisteer to create my site, albeit I’m not its
biggest fan – it crashes a lot and causes nothing but frustration, but I
persevere. I’m hoping to try out Dreamweaver and see if I can create something
with that.
For editing I mainly use Photoshop CS6, and my Wacom Bamboo
Tablet for any of the poster style prints. I’m not an expert, but I do try.
How did you learn to use the software?
I taught myself to use the software, it’s mainly a process
of trial and error, I would however love to do a graphic design course as well
as a course on calligraphy.
Do you make a profit from your blog?
At the minute, I don’t – however I’m hoping to make my blog
PR friendly and to start a business within the next few years and so I may see
myself make a profit.
Do you offer advertising/promotional space on your blog?
Again, not at the minute - I don’t have enough blog traffic
to expect organisations to pay me for advertising space when there is a chance
they may not gain anything from it. I will be growing my blog and building a
media kit and hopefully I can offer other brands a service.
What is your business idea?
I hope to create stationery products such as prints,
greeting cards, invitations etc – catering towards weddings, special occasions and
general life goodies.
When do you plan to set up your business?
My business may not be set up for a good while – I’m applying
for Uni and so this time next year I will be trying to get myself settled into
a higher education setting. I will be working on my business plan and creating
products over time and I hope to have my business fully running by the start of
2015. It could potentially be later than that as I currently have no office space, I would like to be settled and living with Glenn and have my own work space before venturing into my business. Watch this space.
